Touchnote - June 19 - ifompt iblast

Dear MOs and RIGs,
Some updates on the activities of IFOMPT following our Meetings in Geneva in May 2019:

  • IFOMPT had a very successful time at the WCPT Congress in Geneva and it was great having so many MO and RIG delegates present and keen to be involved with IFOMPT.
  • IFOMPT was reconfirmed as a Subgroup of WCPT at their General Meeting.
  • We commenced with some social bonding that included a walking tour of Geneva, a boat trip on Lake Geneva, and an enjoyable fondue.
  • This was followed up by a membership interaction day including meetings of the Advisory Groups and Task Forces, a membership meeting, and Standards Committee workshops for both MOs and RIGS. This day was attended by representatives from 19 of the MOs and 10 RIGs. Dr. Stanley Paris attended the day and paid tribute to Freddy Kaltenborn who passed away shortly before the Geneva events.
  • At the membership meeting, a summary of the audited financial statement for 2018 was presented together with a historical overview of the financial position of IFOMPT from 2009 forwards. This served as a preface to the presentation by the Advisory Group on Finance and to demonstrate the evolution of IFOMPT as an organisation and the importance of how the organisational structure continues to evolve.
  • Thank you to Marion Schreiner and Renee de Ruijter who took care of the logistical arrangements in Geneva.
  • IFOMPT hosted a well attended networking session at the WCPT Congress (a full house in spite of it taking place early on the Sunday morning) where the attendees debated knowledge translation and the inputs, particularly relating to improving website communication and dissemination of knowledge that will inform the future activities of IFOMPT.
  • We had a small trade stand at the WCPT Congress and it attracted a lot of attention.  IFOMPT team members manned the stand for the duration of the Congress and told delegates all about IFOMPT in general and the 2020 Conference in particular. Please continue to remind your members of the benefits competition and the opportunity to win a free conference registration to the IFOMPT 2020 Conference in Melbourne.
  • The Advisory Group on Finance presented the reasons for consideration of the proposed constitutional changes to have the Executive Committee have final decision on the location of the conference with a view to the vote on this by members in late May 2019.  In addition to this, the Conference hosting document was updated and revised and will be used shortly when the call for Expressions of Interest to host the IFOMPT 50th Anniversary Conference in 2024 comes out. Watch this space for the announcement.
  • Shortly, calls will go out for involvement in a number of initiatives that we are planning including the Elections Committee that will oversee the election of the Executive Committee in Melbourne as well as for members to serve on a Task Force that will review the IFOMPT Constitution over the course of the next year.
  • Within a few weeks time the re-invigorated Advisory Group on Research will share a survey with all MOs and RIGs with a request that you share it with your educational programmes and course leaders.  The primary purpose of the survey is twofold, namely to obtain information on strategies used by educational programmes that successfully meet the research element (Dimension 9) of the IFOMPT Standards, and to collect information on barriers and difficulties programmes may face in meeting the research element (Dimension 9). The ultimate goal is to use this information to develop strategies and provide assistance to programmes who may be struggling to fully meet the research component.
  • An updated Code of Conduct and Confidentiality document was agreed to in Geneva and will apply to all members of the EC and SC.  It is envisaged that a similar document will be developed for MO and RIG delegates in the future.
  • The SC along with Laura Finucane evaluated the applications to serve on the SC and will be conducting interviews with a number of applicants in early June 2019.

We look forward to an exciting 15 months filled with lots of hard work and developments leading up to the IFOMPT Conference in Melbourne.

Kind regards
IFOMPT Executive Committee
