26th Mar 2013 Follow us on Twitter.......... The MACP is in the process of developing a social media strategy to grow our presence and profile online. We are all keen to involve as many members as possible in this and hopefully it will provide a useful platform to develop our profile both within the professional and public arenas, disseminate the work of the MACP, share resources and promote healthy discussion. The initial part of our strategy is to have an MACP twitter feed and this will then be closely followed by an MACP facebook page. It would be really appreciated if you could find the time to click on the attached link and follow the MACP on twitter and also find the time to contribute. It would also really help if you shared the link on any other relevant online platforms you use. Many Thanks Follow the MACP on Twitter (click here)

1st Feb 2013 WCPT E-UpdateWCPT E-Update - January 2013 - From the President and Secretary General........ Recently a film from the first WCPT Congress held 60 years ago in London came to light. It is a poignant reminder of WCPT's heritage and the significant role the congresses have played in our evolution. As we begin 2013, the 60th anniversary of that first congress, planning for our 17th Congress to be held in Singapore in 2015 is well underway. You will shortly receive the first Congress Update including the announcement of the members of the International Scientific Committee, chaired by Aimée Stewart, and providing you with an opportunity to help shape the congress by participating in a survey. So, have a look at highlights from the congress in 1953 (www.youtube.com/user/theWCPT/), provide your ideas for 2015 by participating in our upcoming survey and then start making plans to join us in Singapore. Kind regards |
24th Jan 2013 CADInternational Framework for Examination of the Cervical Region for potential of Cervical Arterial Dysfunction prior to Orthopaedic Manual Therapy Intervention. This consensus document presents a clinical reasoning framework for best practice developed by an international collaboration of the Standards Committee of the International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT) and international subject matter experts. This framework was informed by the consensus forum at the IFOMPT International Conference in Rotterdam (June 2008) where nominated experts from each Member Organisation of IFOMPT were invited to participate. Prior to this forum, the issues central to this document were explored through oral presentations and discussion at the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) International Congress (June 2007, Vancouver) and in Rotterdam. Drafts of the document have been developed since 2008 through an iterative consultative process with experts and Member Organisations. This document has been developed as a resource to educate members of the Member Organisations of IFOMPT, physical therapists internationally, and through physical therapists, the public. The framework has subsequently been agreed on by all Member Organisations of IFOMPT. It has been a challenging process to produce an international agreed document, emphasising the need for Member Organisations of IFOMPT to operationalise the framework in line with their national legislation / practice Two MACP members were intrumental in the initiation and development of this documentation, Dr Ali Rushton FMACP, Chair of the IFOMPT Standards Committee and Roger Kerry FMACP. Our grateful thanks go to them for their efforts in producing this extremely helpful guidance. Key principles of the international framework The link to the documentation can be found here; Dr Chris McCarthy PhD, FCSP, FMACP |

20th Dec 2012 MACP members views sought on the new AHP Advisory Fitness for Work Report pilot.MACP members views sought on the new AHP Advisory Fitness for Work Report pilot........Click here to access Fitness Report............. "Dear MSK Physiotherapist,
The pilot of the AHP Advisory Fitness for Work Report has now come to an end and the response from practitioners is causing concern. To do this I need evidence that physiotherapists value this tool and feel competent in advising employees, their employers and GPs on their ability to remain in work if advice is followed.
This does present an excellent opportunity to extend our role in areas which our skills are already, for the most part, established and really should be embraced. We know that many GPs really do not wish to be responsible for fit notes as they feel that their role lies in advocacy of the patient and therefore physiotherapy is a logical profession to take on this work should we demonstrate our ability to do so successfully.
I have spoken with Phil Gray and he considers it vital that MSK physiotherapists should lend their weight and support to this project and generate enthusiasm amongst members to respond to the call from the CSP. Failure to engage with this work will result in a backward profile of occupational health within physiotherapy, which, especially in the present climate, is not good. Physiotherapists are facing increasing challenges from other professions into our areas of expertise, but occupational health is proving to be an area where physiotherapists, with the correct skills, are excelling.
Phil and I therefore asking you for urgent support in persuading your professional network to look at the attached form and then log onto surveymonkey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/AHPfitnessreport to give their opinion on its value, ease-of-use and effectiveness in supporting employees to remain in work following illness or injury.
Very many thanks,
Léonie Dawson, MCSP, PG Dip, |
