The Interaction between Evidence and Clinical Decision Making in Physiotherapy Treatment Selection for Common Musculoskeletal Disorders - A Qualitative Study
Are you an academic or clinician with specialist knowledge in the treatment of the following disorders:
Would you be interested in taking part in a research project that is aiming to investigate the interaction between published evidence and clinical decision making employed by physiotherapists when selecting treatment modalities for the above mentioned conditions? We are also interested in finding out about your perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of the associated clinical evidence.
Your participation in the study would involve a semi-structured interview of approximately one hour in duration, at a time and a place that is convenient to you. Please note that the researcher will go to where you are to conduct the interview. During the interview you will be asked questions relating to views and beliefs on the relative importance of treatment components for a relevant musculoskeletal condition, the research evidence relating to that disorder, and also your opinions relating to inclusions and omissions in relation to an evidence-based treatment pathway. In order for us to verify our interpretations of the findings from the interviews, and if you are willing to do so, you may also be asked to discuss these views at a later date in a focus group with a small number (six to eight) of other participants.
If you are interested in taking part and would like to know more information please contact: Dr Steph Hemmings (email: steph.hemmings@thpct.nhs.uk or telephone: 02082238329)
